ABOUT
A versatile guitarist, she has performed and recorded with a host of Canadian/International artists including Jackie Richardson, Ellen McIlwaine, George Koller, Rita Chiarelli, Jane Bunnett, Mose Scarlett, Jackie Washington, Harry Manx, Lorraine Segato, Salome Bey, Serena Ryder, Diana Braithwaite, Brenda Lewis, Phynix (A.K.A. Bev-Glen Copeland), Tony Quarrington, Georgette Fry, Lawrence Martin, Vern Cheechoo, Big Rude Jake and the incomparable Daisy DeBolt.
....and has accompanied and been on concert stages with dozens of others including Della Reese, Paul Shafer, Amos Garrett, Carole Pope, Lee Aaron, Tom Wilson, and many many more.
A
classically trained musician, her first musical forays were in the
area of folk and roots music. Coming out of university she entering the
folk world, then focused on jazz. While working for the
Grey Bruce Arts Council she researched music in the area, did a radio
show on Woodie Guthrie and was in on the ground floor of the Summerfolk
Music Festival now in its 4rd decade.
She received a CIUT FM Porcupine Lenny Breau Award and has been interviewed and performed on both Vallee FM Radio Paris France and Radio Nacional de Espana Madrid.
She has worked in musical theatre, including 2 runs of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living In Paris at the National Arts Centre Ottawa and has performed with several symphony orchestras.
She can also be found on 2 recent CBC RADIO CD recordings, TBS Women’s Blues Revue “Live" (Massey Hall), “CBC Saturday Night Blues 20 Years”; and Six Strings North of the Border from Borealis Records featuring top Canadian guitarists.
Margaret has performed in some very famous locations including The Louvre Paris France, Grunspan Hamburg and CBGB's New York City.
As guitarist for Big Rude Jake she has performed at festivals, clubs and concerts all over Europe including opening for Ray Charles at Cognac Blues Passion France.
She toured and performed in Europe many time with her own European groups. Clubs and jazz festivals in seven European countries Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic.
In Oct 2006 she made the Prague Post's "Night and Day" inside cover "PICKS" of the week when she performed at two of Prague's hippest jazz clubs with her band.
She was recently interviewed and performed on both Vallee FM Radio Paris France and Radio Nacional de Espana Madrid.
Clubs and jazz festivals in Canada and seven European countries. Margaret is named with the "guitarists of note" in the Canadian Encyclopedia of Music.
Has done workshops with guitar greats Joe Pass, Duke Robillard and Robert Fripp.
She has played with several symphony orchestras and she conceived an Orchestra London Cabaret Series show "You Gotta Reap Just What You Sow" featuring music of the great blues women.
She played guitar and wrote charts and band arrangements for the Toronto Blues
Society Women's Blues Revue for 13 years, performing Toronto's famed Massey Hall for CBC Radio One.
Performs with Karen Scheussler Choir, Paul Winter’s Missa Gaia Earth Mass.
Guitar Duets - Margaret has been a part of several 'guitar duets' - with Tony Quarrington, Mose Scarlett and Oliver Whitehead and in Europe with German jazz guitarist Barbara Jungfer and Paris guitarist Sean Gourley.
